THOUGTH BUBBLE PROJECT

www.uudam.net

Inspired by "Honey,..." sound installation, I am working on a new project in which sculptures of people have thought bubbles coming out from their heads. In each thought bubble is an LED (electronic text display) that can be programmed to run an imaginary dialogue between the characters in the sculpture.

Each week, I will invite a writer to contribute new text for the thought bubbles. The text could be a monologue, a he-said-she-said, or a group conversation, depending on the number of figures in a sculpture. The public can also participate in the creation of text for the sculptures. I believe this project will engage the viewer with public sculpture on many different levels, in a more exciting way.

1. Woman walks Dog (life-size)

This is the text for Woman walks Dog by David Stromberg

1.Did you always know you were my dog?
Yes, no, yes.

2. How do you feel, having no ultimate control over
your life, having your own decisions be meaningless?
I have control, I could pee now, or later, or I could
poop.

3. But if you poop at the wrong time, if you poop at
home, for example, then you get your face in your
poop, I know you don't like that.
If I didn't like it I wouldn't do it where you could
see it.

2. LoLa-Mani

This is a dialoge in a thought bubble beetween two persons. This dialogue is taken from the movie Run LoLa Run to demonstrate what could be done with an L.E.D. sign.

The conversation goes:

Lola: Mianni

Huh?

Do you love me?

Sure I do.

How can you be so sure.

I don't know, I just am.

What if you never met me. I could be some other girls.

......

3. Talking Rock

This is the text for the rock

I am not a rock.

The dialogue could be philosophical, everyday conversation, historical. Thought bubbles can even come out of a rock, an equestrian in a park in the lower Manhattan, to tell a story, to comment on, to express a feeling, to debate, disscuss. The possibility is endless.

Also, text from contributor can be generated through the internet submissions, passerby, people who want to speak up about the sculpture or an issue about the city, people, and so on. The sculpture will take the role of a message board, a delayed symposium, a mirror of thoughts for citizens of cities where they are located (in this case is our beloved Big Apple). There will be a dynamic interaction between the sculpture and the viewers.

3. Below are there are some sketches of the possible compositions of the thought bubble sculptures for your viewing.
